Forest Park Mayor Is Up For Grabs
On a wet Thursday evening, August 11, 2021 a group of elected and former officials along with a hand full of Forest Park residents drew the line in the sand and backed Delores Gunn to qualify for the upcoming Forest Park Mayoral race.
Tuesday, August 16, 2021 through August 19, 2021, Forest Park citizens will be eying to see who will be signing their name to run to be the top elected official for their city. Rumblings in the community, Forest Park City Council and throughout leadership in neighboring cities of the lack of confidence of Forest Park's ability to move the city forward progressively. One member of the group who currently serves as an elected official says "The city of Forest Park has been plagued with the reputation of not being able to get anything done. This is the largest municipality in Clayton County and this is unacceptable."
The recent "VETO" set out by the current mayor has raised the eyebrows of many in the community when she recused herself and then unrecused herself to block a decision made by the council she didn't agree with that resulted in ending a Fire Chiefs career. Citizens say that they are suspicious after she issued another VETO against the city council for voting for hiring an outside council to straighten out what they deem as an "Illegal VETO" .
This has resulted in Forest Park leadership and citizens to sit down with civic organizations and others leadership around the county to help draft a candidate who understands consensus building. A total of five candidates were vetted and interviewed before a decision was made. Ms Gunn says she is humbled and honored to be chosen.
